Cancer Research Institute, Biomedical Research Center, Slovak Academy of Sciences: Project Coordinator

Cancer Research Institute is a leading research institution in Slovakia, focused on the latest topics in oncology, having an impact on understanding the mechanisms of cancer development, prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Project INNOCENT will be carried out within the Departments of Oncology and Genetics. The team has strong expertise in the field of targeted cancer treatment, nanotoxicology and epigenetics. Collaboration with Translational research unit, specialized facility of the 2nd Department of Medical Oncology, Comenius University and National Cancer Institute in Slovakia, will secure knowledge transfer of basic research into clinical practice.

Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis

Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis is a state research institute specializing in pharmaceutical research, organic chemistry, molecular biology and bioorganic chemistry. Laboratory of Membrane active compounds has long standing expertise in the development of synthetic lipid-like compounds as delivery systems. Their main investigation objectives are polyfunctional pyridinium amphiphiles based on the 1,4-dihydropyridine (1,4-DHP) or pyridine structure and also aliphatic cationic lipids possessing self-assembling properties. These compounds are active as gene delivery systems entering the cells via endocytosis.

Vall d’ Hebron – Institut de Recerca, Group of design and pharmacodynamics of nanoparticles has experience in the design, synthesis, characterization and conjunction of novel nanodrugs and the study of their behaviour in animal models.

University of Bergen

The University of Bergen is an internationally recognised research university that is the most cited university in Norway. Biomaterials - Department for Clinical Dentistry is performing translational research and investigations in a cross- and multidisciplinary manner with the aim of evaluating the biological effects of engineered nanomaterials and biomaterials in general. The Nanotoxicology group works mainly on the development of reliable interference-free high-throughput methods for evaluation of nanotoxicity as well as therapeutic effects of nanomaterials. The team is composed of clinicians, physicists, chemists, an electronics engineer, biochemists, and biotechnologists.

NILU-Norwegian Institute for Air Research

The Norwegian Institute for Air Research, NILU, is an independent, non-profit institution established in 1969. NILU focuses on increased understanding of the effects of climate change, composition of the atmosphere, air quality and effects of hazardous substances. The NILU Health Effects Laboratory is the only GLP certified laboratory for human in vitro toxicity testing in Norway. The laboratory comprises great scientific expertise in the field of in vitro toxicology, genotoxicity, nanotoxicology and high throughput toxicity testing. The laboratory investigates the hazardous potential and risk of nanomaterials and emerging contaminants on humans and the ecosystem.

eNIOS is Research & Development SME that develops integrative solutions for analysis and interpretation of data delivered from modern high throughput Genomics technologies. Promoting knowledge discovery in Biology, e-NIOS aims innovative applications in Biotechnology, Drug Discovery and Personalized Medicine. eNIOS is a spin-off company originating from the National Hellenic Research Foundation and works closely with the Institute of Biology, Medicinal Chemistry & Biotechnology. eNIOS assists research teams and industry partners with computational workflows that analyze high throughput molecular data and deliver their final biological interpretation. Members of the research team have extensive expertise in methylomics and transcriptomics, including data analysis.

The project has received founding from the 7th Joint Transnational Call for Proposals for "European Innovative Research & Technological Development Projects in Nanomedicine" within the framework of the ERA-NET EuroNanoMed-II.
